If you’re scheduled for a treatment or have had a treatment recently,
review the items below for your service prep or aftercare instructions.
Preparation
-
If you are scheduled for a peel treatment, please follow the instructions below to prepare accordingly and receive the best results from your service at our office:
Use PCA SKIN® daily care products 10-14 prior to your peel to prepare the skin, allow for better treatment results, and and reduce the risk of complications.
This is recommended but not mandatory. Please consult your physician or skincare clinician for appropriate recommendations for your skin type and condition.
Before your appointment with our office, please consider the following:
If you are lactating, pregnant, or may become pregnant, consult your OB/GYN before receiving any treatment.
Do not use a tanning bed two weeks prior to treatment. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
It is recommended that extended sun exposure be avoided, especially in the ten days prior to treatment.
It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, Ziana, and high-percentage AHA and BHA products for approximately five days or seven days when receiveing MD Peel (CCl3) prior to treatment. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
PCA SKIN® superficial peels result in little-to-no downtime but create dramatic and visible results. Treatments may cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking, or temporary dryness. Most patients find it unnecessary to apply makeup, as the skin will be smooth, dewy, and radiant following your treatment. If you would like to apply makeup, allow approximately 15 minutes for the pH of the skin to stabilize before applying foundation.
When receiving MD Peel (CCl3) it is expected to experience moderate redness and heavier exfoliation for up to seven days post-treatment. During this time makeup applicatoin is not recommended. For subtle coverage, consider using Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 45.
Aftercare
-
Application: 3 days post-treatment, start applying the provided aftercare oil. Some clients notice their brow hairs seem dry after treatment and it is very important that the aftercare cream is applied to the brows nightly.
Skincare: Avoid using makeup and facial cleansers around the brow area for 24 hours post-treatment, and avoid using self-tanning, exfoliating, anti-aging, Retin-A, and AHA products around the brow area for 72 hours before and after treatment.
Do: Avoid touching the brow area for 24 hours post-treatment to ensure brow hairs stay in the correct direction.
Do: Avoid getting your brows wet for 24 hours post-treatment.
Do: Avoid exercising as sweating creates moisture which can affect the lifting process in the first 24 hours.
Do: Avoid extreme and direct heat, including direct sunlight, sun beds, steam rooms, hot showers, saunas, and hair dryers for 24 hours post-treatment.
Do: Schedule your next appointment within the next 6-8 weeks for optimal results.
-
Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser and warm—not hot—water. Do not use abrasive cleansers, wash cloths, cleansing brushes, or hot shower spray for the first 24-48 hours. Do not use anything containing retinol, salicylic acid, or Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) for 5 days following treatment.
Serums: Active ingredients in serums penetrate much better now, so you’ll see quicker results. Please do not use Retin-A for 5 days pre- and post-dermaplaning. For darker skin tones, use a brightening serum to reduce any risk of PIH.
Moisturizer: Choose a hydrating moisturizer and apply twice daily. It’s common for skin to feel tight but dewy to the touch. For darker skin tones, use a 1% hydrocortisone cream for 5 days following treatment to calm inflammation and reduce any risk of PIH.
Makeup: Makeup can irritate skin after dermaplaning. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes, replace your sponges, and apply clean (new) makeup to minimize risk. We recommend mineral makeup for its purity and non-comedogenic properties.
Do: Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you must be in the sun, reapply SPF every 2 hours, wear a hat, and seek shade.
Do: Delay exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms, and saunas for 24-48 hours post-treatment.
Do: Wait 7 days before having any facial waxing done. Waxing may be done prior to dermaplaning. The aesthetician will only dermaplane up to the waxing border so as not to over-stress your skin.
Do: Schedule your appointments 4 weeks apart to optimize results.

Makeup: Do not use makeup around the eye for 24 hours and avoid waterproof mascara.
Do: Avoid moisture, steam, and water for the first 24 hours. Your lashes are still quite delicate for the first 24 hours after treatment and should not be exposed to excess steam or moisture to prevent the lash lift from dropping.
Do: Avoid using shampoos, conditioners, makeups, creams, or oils on the lashes for the first 24 hours as using these products can weaken the lash lift, resulting in relaxation of the lashes.
Do: Avoid picking, pulling, or rubbing your lashes. Natural oils from your hands and skin can alter the structure of the lash lift.
Do: Avoid using strong, oil-based eye makeup remover for 48 hours as this may cause the lash lift to drop.
Do: Try sleeping on your back for the first night to avoid lashes dropping on the outer corner. Try not the sleep face-down and avoid wearing an eye pillow or eye mask the evening of your lash lift.
Do: Schedule your next appointment within 4-5 weeks to optimize your results.

If you received the MD Peel, please review the aftercare recommendations as well as the MD Peel-Specific Post-Procedure and General Guidelines after.
2 Days Post-Procedure:
Stay as cool as possible. Overheating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
Do not put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray.
Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms, or saunas.
Do not go swimming.
Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.
Superficial Treatment General Guidelines:
After receiving a PCA SKIN® professional treatment you should not necessarily expect to "peel." However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately 1 to 12 hours post=procedure.
As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if desired.
To minimize side effects and maximize results, use the Post-Procedure Solution for 3 to 5 days or until flaking has resolved.
If the skin feels tight, apply ReBalance for normal to oilky skin types or Silkcoat Balm for drier skin types to moisturize as needed. For maximum hydration, you can apply Hydrating Serum under ReBalance or Silkcoat Balm.
Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day, but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications, or alpha hydroxy acid products not be applied to the skin seven days post=procedure, as they may cause irritation.
It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A, Differin, Renova, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, or Ziana 5 days prior post-procedure. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+ for UV protection.
Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post-procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
MD Peel Post-Procedure:
Follow the post-procedure recommendations above after 7 Days.
Delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A, Differin, Renova, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, or Ziana 7 days post-procedure. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
Medium-Depth General Guidelines:
After receiving a MD Peel, redness and mild swelling is expected until the skin has fully healed. Exfoliation is typically experienced for up to 7 days post-procedure.
Following treatment, Skin Procedure Ointment should be applied as needed to soothe compromised skin, reduce inflammation, and boost healing.
Once the skin has healed, use The Post-Procedure Solution for up to 7 days or until flaking has resolved.
Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing, or use depilatories for approximately 7 days.
Do not have another treatment until your clinician advises you to do so.
